GM T87A unlock + programming
Good news first: since November 2025, HP Tuners can tune most T87A TCMs through the OBD port with no unlock. We handle everything else: a replacement T87A cloned from your original, a TCM bricked by a failed flash, or tuning software that still needs a bench unlock.

Where the T87A is
On most trucks and SUVs the T87A is inside the transmission (the TEHCM), so the valve body has to come out. On some vehicles it's mounted outside. Pull it carefully, bag it, and keep it away from static.

Common questions
Does a T87A still need an unlock for HP Tuners?
Usually not. Since November 18, 2025, HP Tuners supports tuning the T87A over OBD with the latest VCM Suite beta and four credits. If your TCM won't flash, was damaged by a failed flash, or you use other software, send it to us.
Do I have to remove the TCM?
For bench work, yes, the TCM has to come out. On most 8L90, 8L45 and 10L80 trucks, it's inside the transmission.
Do I still need HP Tuners credits?
Yes. An unlock lets the tuning software write to the module. It doesn't license the vehicle. Your tuner still buys credits or a license in their software as usual.
Can you set up a used T87A for my truck?
Yes, if you send your original with it. We clone your original into the used TCM, and can unlock it in the same job.
Are you part of HP Tuners or EFILive?
No. We're an independent ASE-certified shop. We unlock and program modules so they work with the tuning software you already use.

Send the original if you have it. With your original and the replacement together, most modules can be cloned plug-and-play on our bench. If the original is gone, mail-in programming is available on supported applications, but some setups (security, immobilizer or network initialization) have to be finished with the vehicle present. We'll tell you before you ship.
